Many think that the double girder crane is a type of crane, yet it is only a feature that is sometimes adopted by the overhead crane. In the case of other crane models, such as those that are suspended by only one column or by an arm directly attached to the wall, the double girder crane is not recommended as these infrastructures usually bear less weight. However, it is always possible to make a wider, stiffer column that supports demand, but, of course, the cost will increase. Therefore, in standard double girder crane designs, they are usually applied to suspended overhead cranes, which may be uni-beam or double beam.

Obviously, the double girder crane is suitable for industries that demand a higher weight lifting capacity, since it is distributed between the two beams, so that the weight is not centred in only one, putting at risk both the column and the bar. However, if the double girder bridge supports more weight, it is necessary, in addition to the beams, a hoist with a strong current, so that it does not break when hoisting some equipment or part. In addition to the chain hoist that allows the handling of large weights, it must also have adequate structure, including components in the engine. Therefore, the heavier the object being hoisted, the greater the demand for investment.
